TRADE WITH CHINA.
A GOOD OPENING. A plea for more active trade relations between New Zealand and China was made by Li Kwang Heng, ConsulGeneral for China, at the annual dinner of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. There was, he said, a growing demand in China for butter, cheese and other New Zealand products. , New Zealand was a manufacturer of condensed milk and tinned meats, and both of these commodities found a ready market in China. Seeing that Australia was doing a growing trade with China exceeding £100,000 in commodities in which New Zealand could compete, he could not see why New Zealand merchants could not make a bid for the Chinese markets.
