UNBELIEVABLE CHAOS.
ANGER IN THE MARKETS.
SUIT COSTS TWO YEARS' PAY. LONDON, June 21. The Berlin correspondent of the "DailyExpress" states that unbelievable chaos has resulted from the fall of the mark. Angry scenes are witnessed in the markets, -where housewives are vainly trying to buy sufficient food for their families. A pound of meat costs half a day's earnings of a worker, and a pound of margarine is equal to twelve hours' work. A pair of shoes represents two weeks' •wages, and a suit of clothes two years' earnings.
Protest meetings are taking place everywhere.
The "Daily Telegraph's" correspondent at Dusseldorf states that the fall of the mark has caused a panic there. Shopkeepers' prices disappeared as if by magic from shop windows. The mark is co low that shopkeepers do not know what to charge for goods. Some in despair have closed their establishments. Restauranteurs have no compunction in raising prices. A portion of fresh ealraon costs over 100,000 marks, and for a modest meal -with wine almost the same figure is demanded.
The mark to-day was quoted at 550,000 to the pound. —(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
