5 BRIDGE SUPPORT CRUMBLES. * 1 (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) - DANXEVIRKE, this day. An unusual fatality attended the \ building of a bridge over a stream on the *! Main Napier Road near Makatuku. "j While engaged yesterday in stripping a J chain from a_concrete pillar John Bell, , of Whetukura (21); met his death. The 1 ! concrete broke! and seven hundredweight 1 fell on' Bell, throwing him into the stream and crushing him against the timbers of the foundation. The pillar crumbled and covered the body, which • was not. recovered till daylight, i"7 John Brown, who was assisting Bell, had a narrow escape.
