The race was wo* by Cool Stimulants, but when he returned to scale, H. Goldfinch, his rider failed to draw the weight by half a pound,' Cool Stimulants was disqualified for the event, and the dividends paid out on Elsie Aroha and Bute Sound, which had finished second and third respectively. Mr Williamson, owner of Cool Stimulant! who had personally weighed out th» horse, declared that he had weighed out at 9.5$ so as to be on the safe side. H» challenged the accuracy of the scale. and after a lengthy inquiry the steward accepted expert evidence that on testing the scales they were found to be incorrect. The stewards then decided to award the stake to Cool Stimulants, Irat in the meantime the dividends had been paid out on Elsie Aroha and Bute Sound and as Cool Stimulants was a red-hot favourite, the question is at present si very difficult one, and will probahlv en. gage the attention of the district "com. mittee and perhaps the judges of the New Zealand Racing Conference.
