General Chaytor said it was well to| engrave upon stone the names of those[ who gave their lives for their country. It was. perhaps, easier to die than to live as a cripple, and, of the tasks of grateful remembrance toward the dead, the chief would be to see that the injured living and their dependants were cared for. The great lesson to learn from the men who fought was a lesson I in unity. Wreaths were laid at the foot of the! memorial by relatives of the fallen and; representatives of various friendly, lodges and local bodies, by the local) branch of the R.S.A., and from the crew of H.M.s. Veronica.
