Hampshire beat Warwickshire by 15.7 runs at Birmingham, after one of the most sensational matches in the history of cricket. Tennyson won the toss and put in the Warwickshire men, who scored 22.:. Hampshire, following on after a disastrous innings for 15, lost six wickets for 177 and eight for 274. Then Livsey joined Brown, and the partnership in 140 minutes added 177 for the ninth wicket. Brown making 172. The innings totalled 521 runs. Livsev scoriug 110 not out. Wanting 314 the Warwickshire eleven failed against the bowling of Newman and Kennedy, all being dismissed for 138. Essex. 203 and 17." for five wickets, declared (Russell 125 not out), beat Sussex. 120 and 131. Kent. 130 and 69 for one. beat Gloucester 120 and 70. Freeman took seven wickets lor 35. Somerset, IS2 and 394, beat Leicester, SI and 201. Yorkshire. 339 for seven wickets, declared (Holmes 120), beat Middlesex, 138 and ISO. Derbyshire. 29-1 and 274 for nine, declared, beat Glamorgan, 152 and 134. Surrey, batting first against Gloucestershire to-day, made 478 runs for five wickets (Hobbs 143. Shepherd 114).
