THE INDIAN IN FIJI.
'To the Editur.i Sir.—Mr. Fraser's remarks about the 248 Indians who took away in cash £14,876 with them are not convincing. This cash only represents £fil !)/ apiece! What striking figure for 10 to 15 years' j hard labour. The husband and wife I who had £1500 between them would not I be labourers, but business people. I j am sure that the Indian delegation I which recently visited the Islands would not have written an unfavourable report against the firrther Indian Immi- i gration in the colony if tho Indian was not a poor ill-used creature there.—l . am, etc.. JELAL KALYAX.I XATAM. R. M. Andrews expresses very similar views. The money accumulated by these people is a poor return for their arduous labour on the plantations, is his opinion.
