BOXING IN ENGLAND.
WELLS BEATS LLOYD. TOWEL IN" THE TENTH. LONDON", April 25. Bombardier Wells beat Albert Lloyd the Australian heavy-weight boxer, formerly of Auckland. In the tenth round Lloyd's seconds threw in the towel. Lloyd put up a plucky right, but Wells was master practically throughout. He seemed to know he was opposed to a. boxer rather than a lighter, and made wonderful use of his superior height and reach, punishing Lloyd severely with lefts to the jaw in every round. Wells' footwork was perfect. In the seventh he had Lloyd down for eight seconds. The Aus- ■ tralian gamely continued, but th« end came in a eensationffl tenth round. Wells first floored-Lloyd for seven seconds, and then knocked him clean through the ropes for eight. Lloyd again returned, and Wells thereupon had him reeling round the ring like a drunken man. The throwing in of the. towel saved a knock-out. Ledoux, the French boxer, won the bantam championship of Europe on points against Harrison in a contest at Liverpool.—(A. and N\Z. Cable.)
