OBITUARY.

; MR. ISAAC NATHAN. I It is with regret that we record the death of Mr. Isaac Nathan, who for the past fifteen years had been head engineer machinist of the "Star." Up to a week ago last Thursday he was in j his accustomed health, when he con- ' tracted gastric influenza. He was apparently making satisfactory progress, but pneumonia supervened and he was removed to hospital. There he ' gradually grew worse and died yester- I day. Mr. Nathan was only 46 years of age at the time of his death, which was a great surprise and shock to his many friends. Originally he came from Brisbane, and afterwards worked in Sydney, from which city he came over to the "Star" to take charge of the big rotary ', machines on which the newspaper is printed. Deceased leaves a widow and a young family of three. The funeral takes place at "Waikumete, the cortege leaving his late residence in Jervois Road at ten o'clock to-morrow. MR. J. D. home in Pukeroro. near Cambridge*, aged 53 years. The deceased had resided in j the" district nearly all his life, and was highly esteemed. He wa6 a farmer and well known as an extensive horse breeder. He leaves a wife and six young children. MRS. S. A. WADDELL. The death took place peacefully in her sleep last evening of Mrs. Sophia Ann Waddell, aged 67, wife of a former Mayor of Auckland, the late Mr. W. R. Waddell. Mrs. "Waddell. who had been an invalid for a num.bt-r of years, was ;born in Middlesex, England, and came out to iNew Zealand in the Tybi.Tnia in |l8t!3. She married in 187 ft the late Mr. ! Waddell. who occupied the Mayoral chair for three terms. During their term of office Mr. and Mrs, Waddell were presented with a silver cradle on the birth of their second son. Although • tho custom was an old one. this was 'the first presentation of its kind in New Zealand. The "late Mrs. Waddell also resided in Wellington for about twelve years, but the last eight years of her I life were spent with 'her fon. Mr. A. C. ["Waddell. of Dominion Read. Another old colonist, Mrs. Caroline Brown, passed peacefully away on April 11. at her son's residence. 12, Dcdwood Terrace. Ponsonby. Deceased met with jan accident about 12 months ago, from i 'the effects of which sdic never recovered. IShe arrived in Auckland in lStiO, by the Rob Roy (Captain MV-Gregotrl. She was one of the Allnutt family, formerly at IDrury Lane ' Theatre, London, and was well known here as a. ballet dancer in the early days. Deceased is survived by two sons, "Robert and George Brown, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. I MRS. E. B. OSTLER. j At the age of 74 years, there died at ! Remuera on Thursday Mrs. E. B. Ostler, j relict of the late W. 11. Ostler, formerly ! | well known as owner of the Ben Ohau i station in McKenzie County. Cani terbery. Deceased was one of the early : settlers in that district. Her husband ■ was accidentally killed in 1879. and Mrs. , Ostler removed to the North Island, ; taking up a block of bush land at Levin. IKight years ago Mrs. Ostler removed to j Auckland to spend the evening of iier days. She is suTvived by her son Air. H." H. Ostler, barrister and solicitor, of Auckland, and two daughters, Mrs. C. K. Wilson, of Pukeiti, King Country, and Miss D. Ostler.
