FRAUD ALLEGED.
« HARBOUR BOARD EMPLOYEE. Walter Chapman, an employee of the Auckland Harbour Board for thirteen years, was yesterday prosecuted at the city Court on several charges of fraud and misappropriation. The offences were alleged to have been committed at Devonport between 1918 and 1922, and to include the falsifying of receipts on divers dates for sums amounting to £•& 2/4, 16/8, £50 1/3, and the misappropriation of fees payable to the Harbour Board and totalling over £50. Last month the accused., when questioned concerning these matters, made -certain admissions and was suspended and afterwards dismissed. Mr. Osburne Lilly appeared for the accused, who was said to have had sole charge of the Devonport wharf on behalf of the Harbour Board, which depended , entirely upon his statements and '. receipts as to what revenue was received there. j It was stated that the accused admitted having falsified receipts totalling , £164 7/3, whereby he secured the total , of £54 10/U for his own use. Accused Avas committed to the Supreme , j Court.
