PROGRESS REPORTED. PROPOSED WORKS AND '■ BUILDINGS. The ordinary meeting of the Manuka, County Council was held to-day, Sir. A. D. Bell presiding. A reply to the council's suggestion that-5 per cent, rebate be made to «U persons paying their general rat* within 30 days of due date was received from the Department of Internal Affairs, stating that the matter would be given consideration when an amendment of the Rating Act is being dealt with. Messrs. Jackson. Russell, Tunks and Ostler advised that they had paid into the council's account the balance of the loan of £4500 for county offices, lej| their charges of £35 5/6. MANGERE RIDING. That authority to lease portion of the reserve, allotment 4S, village of MasI gere, had been validated fey section 124 of the Reserves and Other Lands Di*. posal Bill. 1921-22, was the text of » communication read from Messrt BrookfieM. Prendergast and Schnauer. Notification that £120 had been paid Ito the council's credit in accordanet I with gorse clearing contracts on th« i Ecclsstone Settlement was received from the Department of Lands and Survey. FAKURANGA RIDING. A letter was read from the' State Advances offices stating that the resolution striking the special rate in connection with the Pakuranga Hall 10 per cent, adcitional loan of fIOO had teen gazetted. WAIROA RIDING. The Minister of Public Works wrote stating that he would give the application for a grant of £200 for metalling the road from Ness Valley to Kawa Bay his careful consideration. The engineer, Mr, W. J. Lopdell, reported that settlers on the Moumoukai Hill had agreed to proceed with the loan proposal of £1000. The Government had voted £500 on account of £1000, which, if obtainable, would carry out the original scheme. Building permits amounting to £6732 were issued during last month.
