SHIPPING CONFERENCE.
WORLD-WIDE CO-OPERATION. SURPLUSAGE OF SHIPS. il!c"'cived ij.:;o p.m.) LONDON, November 24. Fourteen nations were represented at the inaugural meeting in London of the International Shipping Conference. Sir Owen who presided, declared that the shipping situation made practical co-operation of shipowners all over the world inevitable. He instanced the superabundance of vessels, exceeding the world's needs for several years, nnd advocated that older, also new, vessels of inferior type be dismantled. If countries represented abolished half the artificial restrictions great numbers of steamers would be employed. — (A. a-nd N.Z. Cable.)
