JAPAN'S LOYALTY.

NEW ZEALAND'S VIEWPOINT.

WASHINGTON. November 24.

It was the turn of Sir John Salmond, the New Zealand delegate, to withstand, as representative of the British delegation, a battery of questions from American pressmen to-day. The usual queries regarding the Anglo-Japanese Alliance were put to him immediately. He reiterated Mr. IVarce's statement that New Zealand regarded .Japan as a loyal ally and felt that the alliance should not be abrogated unless something better was substituted. New Zealand would welcome a general understanding between the nations concerned for the peace of the Pacific. Sir John Salmond dealt with a multiplicity of questions with ready skill.

It is unofficially stated that the United States will not allow any discussion of European debts nnd other financial questions. Another conference may be called to deal with these matters. (A. and -ts.T.. Special Representative.)
