GLEN EDEN CELEBRATES
ITS NEW POWERS. tircat enthusiasm was displayed at Glen Eden (late Waikumete) last evening when the public hall was more than filled with enthusiasts who had assembled to celebrate the inauguration of a town board for that district. Dr. Moore, who occupied the chair, said they were there that evening to say good-bye to Waikumete and wish prosperity to Glen Eden. Congratulatory telegrams were received from the Hon. C. J. Parr, member for the district, and interested citizens of Henderson. Mr. Geo. Lawson extended to them the best wishes of the New Lynn people for the future prosperity of the district. As neighbours they were pleased to see them move forward, and would be pleased to give them a hand. Mr. Shepherd, who has been a bi.i factor in the town board movement, suitably responded to the congratulations, and referred to the rapid progress made by New Lynn since the town board had been in existence. He believed Glen Eden would make similar progress, and hoped'they would eventually become a borough. He ■believed in aiming high. Concert items were given throughout the evening and much appreciated by the audience. A very successful gathering terminated with dancing, which was continued until a late- hour.
