WHAU BRIDGE REPAIRS.
AGREEMENT REACHED. NEW LYNN BOARD IN CONTROL. The conference held yesterday afternoon by the local bodies interested in the allocation of cost of the bridge over the Whau Creek came to an agreement for repairing the present structure. It was agreed that the New Lynn Town Board should assume control of the bridge, and carry out its own scheme for repairing it. This consists of completely re-decking the bridge and of sealing the decking with some bituminous material. The cost of these repairs and the maintenance of the work is to 'be borne by the New Lynn Board and the Waitemata County Council on the one side, sharing between them 50 per cent of the cost, while the remaining 50 per cent will be found by the local bodies on the Auckland side of the bridge, including the City Council. It was also agreed that this arrangement should not prejudice any local authority in any future new construction which might be deemed desirable to meet requirements. The estimated co.-t of the repairs is approximately £500.
