PERSONALS.

I . Mr. Edward Newman, M.P. (Manawatu), is visiting Auckland for a few and is staying at Cargen. Mr. E. C. Banks, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, has undergone a slight operation in a private hoapital at Hamilton. Mr. Wyrern Wilson, S.M., Christchurch, has recovered from his indisposition, and resumed duty at the Court. Mr. A. O. Tovey, who retires from the position of postmaster at Palmerston North shortly, joined the service in 1877. For twenty years he was supervisor at Wellington. The Rev. Dr. Pinfold was presented at a meeting of the Masterton Methodist Circuit, with a silver-mounted -walking stick in appreciation of services rendered as temporary supply. Mr. W. Pollock has been appointed editur-manager and secretray of the I Mangonui Newspaper Co. He is also I organising secretary of the Bay of | Islands district of the New Zealand Farmer?' Union. Mr. W. A. Bank?, who has been elected Mayor of Rangiora unopposed, was for many years a member ofy the '■ teaching profession. He is a brother of Mr. E. C. Banks, chairman of Auckland Education Board. Mr. W. A. 'Andrews, principal clerk of the telegraph division, who is volun- I tarily retiring on superannuation, was j presented by the staff at Wellington with an electric lamp and a travelling rujr. Mrs. Andrews was also the recipient of an afternoon tea-tray, and a cake-stand. Upon the date of his retirement, Mr. Andrews will have been 42 years in the service.
