TRAMCAR FATALITY.

AN ACCIDENTAL OCCURRENCE. The inquest into the death of Mr. Carl Mix was concluded last evening before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M. Last, Tuesday at about 5.30 p.m. deceased was seen by a number of witnesses- to leave the corner of Fort Street, as if with the intention of crossing Queen Street or of boarding an inward-bound car. He ran in front of an otit ward-bound tram which knocked him down, his foot getting caught under the front wheels. Brakes were applied by the motorman, but the car slid about eight or ten yards before coming to a standstill. During this time deceased was spun around, and his foot became released, thus bringing his head under the second bogey wheel. Witnesses of the unanimous opinion that the motorman did all that he could under the circumstances, and no blame could be attached to either him or the conductor. Mix was a single man of 39 years, and had, been working on the waterside. He was born in Germany, and resident in New Zealand since 1908. On Tuesday evening at 0.0 p.m. he jvas saber. He was neither short-sighted nor deaf. A verdiot of death due to an accident by deceased negligently getting in front of a tramcar was returned by the Coroner.
