GELIGNITE EXPLOSION.
POLICE STATION DAMAGED. AN" ARREST MADE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CFIRISTCHURCH, Monday. James Scanlon, aged 36 years, a native of New Zealand, appeared in the Magistrate's Court to-day charged with placing an explosive substance against the Arthur's Pass police station on December S, with intent to damage it. A stick of gelignite was exploded against a oneroomed hut occupied by Constable McKay at Arthur's I'ass on the night of December S. The constable was away at Gartield at the time. The door of the hut was blown in, and the walla were slightly damaged. Scanlon was remanded without bail.
