s Mr. K. S. Williams, M-P. for P,ay of Plenty, left for Tauranga yesterday. Mr. Justice Chapman left by the midday express for Wellington. Mr. William Dallas, a former member of the Otago Land Board, has just died at Balclutha aged S4 years, . Mr. Ernest Bell, son of Sir Francis Bell, was a passenger South by the express last night. Mr. W. F. Sligo, secretary for Dunedin Stock Exchange, having resigned after 18 years' service, was presented with a silver-mounted inkstand. The Hon. Mark Cohen, editor of the Dunedin "Evening Star" for more than a generation, has just vacated the editorinl chair. Mr. F. Brookes, of the editorial department of the Wellington "Evening Post," has retired. He was presented with a travelling rug and wallet prior to leaving on a visit to Australia. Dr. T. J. Hughes, Oistrict Health Officer, and Dr. H. Chesson, District Health Officer for North Auckland, returned from Wellington by the express. The Hon. George Fowrds returns from his visit to America on Monday afternoon by the Niagara. His friends have arranged to tender him a reception in the Chamber of Commerce on Friday evening. Mr. .1. P. Firth, late headmaster of Wellington College, who retired voluntarily after 20 years' occupancy of that position, was entertained by present and. past pupils in the Town Hall. When Mr. Firth took charge there were 55 boys on the roll. To-day the number is 650.
