WAR MEMORIAL DESIGN.
(To tho Editor.) Sir,—Your own comments and the letters of correspondents in reference to tho memorial for Auckland have given a lead to the pnblic on a subject which should appeal very strongly to the "Civic Pride" of each and every Aucklander. Further, the views of an eminent and independent authority. Prof. Wilkinson, of Sydney, have strongly confirmed your opinions on the subject. Yet in spite of all protests. T understand that we still run some risk of waking up some morning to find a ferroconcrete "Ode to the Dead," towering in grim reality abov«> us. In England, structures erected by foolish, ill advised, or incompetent people, are known as Follies —■ co and so's folly, either by name of plaeo or by the erector. Are -we in Auckland to have such a "folly" or a monument, ideal and worthy, reflecting the beat tTmt is in us. 'a tribute to "Our Glorious Dead"?—l am, etc., Civil- PR IDK.
