"Only a Dieger" thinks that the provision of houses suitable for the returned soldier should take precedence of any war memorial scheme. "Olil Age Pensioner" stresses the hardship that many pensioners are suffering in the endeavour to exist on the pension of 15/ in the present state of depreciated purchasing power of the money. '"Papakura." while agreeing ■with a correspondent that the state of the Great South Road is deplorable,, says that it is no use Mnming- the local 'bodies while residents refuse to rote them the money. When the Papakura Town Board moved in the direction of laying down the one and a-lialf mile of the South Road for ■which it is responsible, this correspondent was among the opposition that tilled the raisins of a loan. "R.L." asserts that no precautions are taken in blasting metal near the Western Springs to warn traffic on the adjacent road. As a consequence two ladies and two small children had a narrow escape from serious accident when driving past. Several shots were fire' and the pony ;boltcd.
