MINERS GO SLOW.
A GENERAL MOVEMENT. MAY STRIKE NEXT WEEK. DONG (STANDING DISPUTES. (Hy Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Tt was authoritatively stated in Wellington to-day that the coal miners throughout New Zealand have decided to restrict the output as a preliminary to sterner tactics intended to enforeo ' a settlement of the long-standing disi pute at the Green Island, Tarntu and [ Mataura mines. It is known that the ' go-slow policy is actually in operation at Taupiri, the State and Blackball mines, and as a result of decisions arrived at by other unions will probably be in operation in all mines by ' Monday next. The miners as a whole arc said to be I determined that the disputes mentioned shall be settled forthwith, and if a satisfactory solution of the difficulties is not arrived at by the middle of next ' week a general stoppage of work at , ail tlie mines may be looked for. | Further action will be considered at stop-work meetings to be held by all ' unions next week. Gas was available to-day for domestic but not for industrial purposes. Work on the wharves is proceeding.
THE COMPANIES' POSITION.
AGREEMENT NOT BROKEN. (I'.y Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. In reference to the telegram yesterday stating that some of the West Coast coal miners had decided to go slow as a method of forcing the government to I make tl.e Taratu and Green Island Coal I Companies observe the conditions of the I National agreement, these companies 1 deny that they are breaking the agreement. The present question is really as to what was the pre-war rate of pay, and the companies concerned thought that was fixed by the disputes committee in June, but since then the miners have opened it up again.
