EX-MINISTER'S SLANDER SUIT. SYDXEY, August 27. At the inquiry into the administration of the Soldiers' Settlement Department, the witness who gave evidence yesterday, under further examination, disclaimed any intention of inferring in connection with the repairs to the house of Mr. VV, G. Ashford, ex-Minister of Lands, that any Government propertj" had l>een improperly he was under instructions while employed in the Soldiers' 1 Settlement Department and supervised the work. Another officer of the Department worked at repairs. i Mr. W. G. Ashford has issued a writ 1 claiming £10,000 damages for alleged slander from Mr. Clark, member in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly i for Wammerawa, in connection with the administration of the Soldiers' SettleIment Department.— (A. and K.Z.
