QUEENSLAND LEASES.
THE PREMIER'S OFFER. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 27. In reply to recent criticisms of the mission to London of Mr. Theodore, Premier of Queensland, the AgentGeneral has authorised the following statement: When Mr. Theodore met the pastoral representatives lie olTercd to repeal the Act relating to the pastoral lease contracts in the current session, and asked that tho opposition shown to the Government's loan proposals should be withdrawn nnd the previous harmonious relations between tho investing public and Queensland might be restored. The deputation, while cheerfully accepting Mr. Theodore's offer, desired a I further pledge not to introduce a pasI toral lease tax. I Mr. Theodore regarded this as an atII tempt to subordinate the legislative j functions of a Sovereign State to the | dictatorship of outside irresponsible I parties. He held that this was more than even tho Imperial Government itself would ask a Sovereign State to submit to. —(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
