"LIKE A GREAT METEOR."
SEEN PROM WHAKATANE. (By Telegraph.—Own Gorresposden't.) WHAKATANE, this day. About seven o'clock last night what was taken to be a magnificent «meteor occupied about a minute travelling from north-west to north-east across Whale leland and White Island. It left a white trail which illuminated the sky for about half an hour afterward.- It was like an enormous comet. Crowds gathered in the streets watching the apparition.
