A fracas on board the Chepadoe last evening between two members of the crew led to Charlee Tucker, the cook of the vessel, being taken to the Auckland Hospital. The men had a dispute, and endeavoured to arrive at a settlement by means of their fists. In the course of hostilities Tuoker's opponent received a gash at the back of the head, while Tucker was hit in a similar spot with a mutton bone. This proved hie "knockout" blow, and necessitated his removal to tho hospital, where he U progressing favourably.

An inquest wae opened yesterday afternoon by Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M., touching the death of Percy Carl Smith, of Kohimuraina, who died at a private hospital under unusual When the man wae taken to the hospital by Dr. Drier he was showing symptoms indicating poisoning, either from internal ulcer or some foreign substance, and as he strenuously denied having taken poison Dr. Drier and Dr. Horton consulted about his treatment. The coroner ordered that the internal organs be submitted to the Government analyst for report, and the inquest was adjourned till to-morrow morning.
