TORRENTIAL RAIN.
SEVEN INCHES IX TWO DAYS. (By Telegraph.—own Correspondent.) KAITAIA, this day. Torrential rain has fallen here during the past three daye, the fall measuring seven and a half inches. The efficiency of the drainage scheme now being carried out by the Government, which includes the clearing and dredging of the Kaitaia river, was strikingly demonstrated, ac from Awanui to the present terminal point at Kaitaia town, the river proved capable of meeting the demand made upon it by the huge volume of water, and the country remained free from flood. The demonstration proves that when the whole of the work is completed, in this rich and fertile area wil be unknown. Beautiful warm weather again prevails to-day. -
