THREE MILLION DEMOBILISED CONSCRIPTION ENDING. ' LONDON, August 1. 1 Tn the House of Commons Mr. Winston ■ Churchill, Minister of War, said that over three million officers and men had been demobilised. Demobilisation was , continuing at the rate of five to six j thousand a day. Conscription was disappenrinj:, and would end with the -Military Service Act unices any unfor- . seen catastrophe occurred. The regular army numbered 225,000, : and four to five thousand volunteers were ; enlisting weekly. i Referring to the Labour Triple Alliance's Ballot on the question of with- • drawal from Russia and the problem of 5 conscription Mr. Churchill said that its four grievances were obsolete, because withdrawal from Russia had long been decided on and Conscription was passing away. He added that the War Office circular, relating to strikes was not political, and c was now out of date and finally all i conscientious objectors would be re- ) leased. He solemnly ■warned the agitators that they must hasten a general strike, otherwise it would be necessary for them to get a new outfit ol grievances.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
