CRUELTY TO HORSES.

(To fie Editor.) 1; Sir, —I noticed in the "Star" an ac- _ count of shocking cruelty to horses, _. where a man was up on three charges of starving four horses and leaving one • lying with a broken leg, and was let off _ to come up for sentence when called _ upon, because he was not in a financial c position to pay a heavy penalty. I j consider such callousness and gross g cruelty deserves something stronger tnan that. A little hard labour with starvation diet might be more beneficial. J Let them have a taste of what they give to the poor dumb creatures that are left to their mercy. —I am, etc., HUMANITY.
