THE RAILWAY RESTRICTIONS.
(To the Editor.) t Sir,—lf the shortage of coal is the real v cause. of the present intolerable state t of affairs, then an effort should be made v to carry on a somewhat reduced service s with wood and coal mixed. The firebox 1 in our locomotives is too small to make a the use of wood satisfactory, but with a p bit of extra stoking the thing is possible, f. There are many large, powerful engines h run with sawdust and shaving 3. It c would be better to have our streets in a darkness and all picture theatres closed than stop the railway service. Timber cannot be got down to help deal with the housing question. It spells disaster to sawmillers, and probably to many farmers. —I am, etc., 1 E. STETEXSOX. a . h
