LIEUTENANT LAURENT, V.C.
WELCOMK AT HAYVEKA. (By Telegraph.—Tress Association.) HAWERA. Thursday. Many hundreds of people gathered shortly after mid-day to welcome Lieutenant Laurent, V.C. The street fronting the station was packed by a dense crowd. Thp speakers were the Mayor and Major Cox, group commander, who gave a hearty welcome to Lieut, Laurent. The Citizens' and Salvation Army Bands were present. Many people carried flags and several buildings worn decorated, while whistles at the timber mills were sounded. After the speech a procession was formed, headed by the Citizens' Band, and proceeded with Lieut. Laurent to his home. On the platform was Lieut. Laurent's grandfather, aged !)4 years, and the crowd gave him an enthusiastic ovation.
