PEACE CELEBRATIONS.
DATE NOT YET KNOWN. MAY BE AUGUST 3, 4, AXD 5. Xo word has yet been received in Auckland as to the date when it is proposed to hold the peace celebrations. It is believed that August 3. 4, and 5, thus including the anniversary of the declaration of war by Britain on Germany, will be the days selected by the Imperial Government as most fitting for the celebrations that are to follow the signing of the treaty. Speaking of the matter this morning the Deputy-Mayor (Mr. A. J. Entrican) said there had been a kind of understanding that the celebrations would take place some ten days after the peace treaty had been signed. Nothing definite had been decided, however, and apparently the suggestion would not be carried out. He understood that the Government had been informed by the Imperial Government of the dates that had been fixed, but this had not yet been disclosed. If the dates selected were those quoted above, they would suit very well. The celebrations here, as in Britain, were to cover a period of three days, commencing on a Sunday. A meeting of the -Peace Committee would be held on Tuesday next, when the matter would be further considered.
