NATIONAL ART GALLERY.
AS PEACE MEMORIAL, ■A WELLIXGTO." SCHEME. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLIXGTOX, this day. The Council of the Academy of Fine Arts, the Mayor, and other prominent citizens, have made an offer to the Government to raise a fund or £10,000 towards the erection of a national art gallery as a peace memorial "to the valour and 6elf-sacrifice of our soldiers, and to the splendid part they played in the fight for liberty and justice and for a lasting peace." The 'Hon. G. TV". Russell promised to place the proposal before Cabinet, with a view to securing Government contributions and putting the scheme in hand as soon as possible.
