PAYMENT FOR SOLDIERS' WORK.

(To tie Editor.) Sir, —As a returned soldier who was for a long time in hospital, I would like to thank you for an article which appeared in your paper recently. It was on the subject of solcliers in hospital receiving payment for any work they may do, ba&ketwork or leatherwork, etc. 1 think it is hard lines that this should be stopped. Many are the hours that I have passed away pleasantly, which would have hung mighty heavy—long winter evenings and cold wet days—and the money I earned by my work has come in very handy, I can tell you, as it is none too easy getting back into work again. I am not writing this for myself now, as I am pretty fit, thank goodness, but I do think this new rule is mighty hard on the poor fellows who are still in hospital.—l am, etc., A DIGGER.
