DEPARTMENT'S DECISION TO APPEAL. HOARD DISAPPROVES. The question of the exemption of certain teachers from military service came up in the Finance Committee's report at the meeting of the Education Board tr-day. Tbe committee reported that a letter on tbe subject had been received from the Auckland branch of the Educational Institute, also a telegram from the Department stating that, with a view to guarding against undue depletion of the teaching profession, the Minister had decided to appeal for all remaining Second Division teachers. The committee regretted the action taken by the Department, and on its recommendation the Hoard approved of a resolution providing for the Board to express i_s regret at the action of the Department in appealing for teachers, and its adberence to its former resolution that teachers should not be appealed for, but expressing the strong opinion that if any teachers arc to be exempted the exemption should apply to all teachers now in New Zealand.
