C 1 RESERVISTS.

TWO APPEA_S OF INTEREST. HAD STATE EXPERIMENTS. Two appeals before the First Auckland Military Service Hoard to-day were responsible for somewhat interesting revelations in connection with the medical examination of reservists, particularly men classified to undergo -tryout" at the CI camp. When the appeal of Herbert Bacon (CI), of Albert Street (Mr. Siugcrl. was called, counsel drew attention to the fact that the man had "been in camp five months, six weeks of which he was in hospital, being eventually rejected. Although unfitness was not the ground of appeal, it appeared that this was a clear case which required medical reconsideration. A doctor's certificate produced said Ihe man was diagnosed to have a gastric ulcer, and the sending of such a man to a CI camp to live on ordinary soldier's food was dangerous to the recruit, and the worst experiment the State could make from a military poiut of view. The appeal was adjourned for a month for further medical examination by the authorities. BOARD KNEW HIS" DISABILITIES. The case of Victor W". Brown. Newmarket (Mr. Durham), was similarly interesting. Mr. Durham, who said th? man had been originally classed C 2. aud now was CI. presented two doctors' certificates, in which it was stated that the reservist had an irregularity of the heart ami other physical disabilities, which Would prevent him from ever being made fit. It was understood the man would be re-examined. Major Conlun said an order hud been issued that re-examination of C 2 men, who had been classified t'l by the C 2 Re-examination Board, were to take place nt camp. Air. Durham: I think it would be cheaper to the tax'wyers to keep a man here than to cause him to break up his home and leave his business to go to camp lor three or four weeks for Ihe convenience of the military authorities. Major Conlau: Well, I tltink he would be foolish to sell up his home. Mr. Durham: What is he to do? He is only a working man. : anil cannot" afford to keep a honfe going while R-t ea in p. Major Conlan. reading from the juilitary papers, said tlie Medical Board knew that this man had had rheumatism and had not a correct or norma! heart, ami yet they classed him CI. As the appellant was not present, the appeal was adjourned to hear him as to his other requirements.
