The methods of keeping accounts of soldiers' pay was criticised by Mr. V. J. Lamer, chairman of the Claims Board of the Auckland Patriotic Association, in a report to the executive of that body yesterday afternoon. When lust in Wellington. Mr. Earner stated, he lv.d made inquiries as to the delay in forwarding allotments of returned soldiers' pay, and he had become convinced that so long as the present system of keepinc accounts obtained, delays were bound to occur. The Quartermaster-General bad the matter well in hand, and was initiating some improvements which should assist the "speeding-up" of the work in Wellington. The main cause of the delay, however, appeared to lie with the pay office in England, the staff of which —it was only fair to say—wag considerably overworked.
