ENEMY DRIVEN FROM PLOEGSTEERT SECTOR.
RESULT OF BRITISH ADVANCE EAST OF MESSINES.
(Received 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, June 14. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Our further advance eastwards of Messines, combined with pressure southward of the front of attack, compelled the enemy to abandon an important section of the iirst line defensive between the River Lys, north-east of Armentieres, and St. Yves, a mile and a-half south of Messines. We followed the enemy closely, and made considerable progress eastward of Ploegsteert Wood. We also gained ground in the neighbourhood of Gapaard, due cast of Messines. We carried out raids north-east of Bullccourt and southward of Hoogc, in the Ypres sector. — (High Commissioner's Cable.)
