ABATTOIR AND MEAT SHOPS.

I CITY COUNCIL INTERESTS SAFEGUARDED. The question of how the Government meat shops would affect the city abattoir was evidently taken into consideration by the Board of Trade prior to the establishment of the shops in Auckland. Last night the Mayor reported to the City Council that he had had several conferences with the Board of Trade, at the latter's request, respecting the city abattoir. The position disclosed to him was that as the abattoir might possibly be affected considerably by any Government proposals in connection with the i business, it was necessary to take steps to guard against action calculated to bring about a desirable benefit in any one direction causing disability in other directions. He thought the arrangements made would be deemed satisfactory, and he would report them to tho Council in committee. At a later stage in the meeting, his Worship explained to the Council in committee just what had in effect been considered so far as the abattoir and the Government meat shops were concerned, and the position at present was deemed satisfactory.
