CREW OF THE KINGSTONIAN MISSING.
' SITUATION BECOMING INCREASINGLY GRAVE.
ALLIES MAY LAY CLAIMS AGAINST UNITED STATES.
(Heceived 10.15 a~m.)
NEW YORK, October 10. The crew of fifty of the British freighter Kingstonian, sunk by the submarine U53, is missing, and search has proved unavailing. President Wileon is studying the situation, which the newspapers pronounce as increasingly grave. In view of the Allies' declaration in regard to submarines as outlaws, not entitled to enter neutral harbours, it is considered probable here that the Allies win lay claims against the United States for allowing U53 to enter Newport, Rhode Island, and depart unmolested. The State Department will vigorously resist such'a demand.
