NINE VESSELS SUNK IN ONE DAY.
AMERICAN DESTROYERS THICK ON SCENE AT TIME. TWO ASKED TO MAKE WAY FOR A TORPEDO. [Rauttr's TftegniM.l NEW YORK, October 10. The captain of the Nantucket lightship states that nine vessels were sunk on Sunday, but the names of only six have been obtained. In one instance American destroyers -were so thick on the scene that the commander of the enbmarinc asked two to make way to allow him to blow up his prey without damaging othersThere are three Allied warships off Xantucket, aieo American patrol -eeasels, the object of the latter being to protect neutrality and effect rescues. Officials of the Cunard line and French and Italian lines declare that their vessels, which carry guns, will sail as usual. German agents openly boast that the submarine U35 intends to sink the liners Adriatic. Cedric, Minuehaha, Bovic, Baltic, Celtic, Manchuria, Saxonia, and Rochambeau.
