James Jackson, aged 39, a married ______ a paintlr by trade, resident in Whangarei, was drowned in Lkneburners' Creek under peculiar circumstances on Sunday. Jackson was fishing off I_sn_- '■ burners' railway bridge, when, after the passing of two railway jiggers, he fell .into the water. Desperate efforts were I made to save him by R- B. Stevens, also by F. G. Partridge, but in a swift I current the man's struggles rendered I their efforts abortive. Both men were considerably exhausted before reaching the shore. The fatality was -ntn__-ed ■by Jackson's wifeAn inquest was held to-day, and a verdict was T-turned that death -was due to accidental drowning, no blame being attachable to anyone. The coroner remarked that Jackson evidently became startled after the first jigger passed, and, not expecting another, overbalanced and fell into the Vater.
