REMUERA'S WATER SUPPLY.

SOME NECESSARY IMPROVEMENTS. The City Waterworks Engineer, reporting on'the reticulation mainis in the Remuera district, stated that the whole 600 fire plugs would require altering to the city standard, at an approximate cost of £700, and that it would be necessary to at once lay a new gravitation main between Mount Eden and Mount Hobson, with double the capacity of the present one. He adds that a 9-inch main, with a capacity;of 570,000 gallons per day, taken over _ shorter rotate, would cost approximately £2,400. The work was an urgent necessity, stated the engineer, who. said that he had made arrangements for carrying on the work at Remuera, and haa completed the stock-taking. The Water Committee recdmmended that the Finance Committee be asked to consider how the scheme was to be financed, the engineer to report on the question of cost in view of the possibility of Epsom joining the city and a larger main being required. < .
