SWAMP FIRES EXTINGUISHED, (fly Telejraph.- -Cwn Correspondent.) PAEROA. Thursday. The heavy rain which commenced on Wednesday continued throughout the night and today. Alihhough the wet weather spoilt the Ohinemuiri Jockey Club's races on Wednesday, and caused the Becond day's races to be postponed, it has come as a. great help to the ' farmers, and ivM'l do an immense amount of good. The district has stootl the . drought exceptionally well, and the raiin now will revive the grass which was showing signs of the severe season. The turnip props will greatly benefit by the downpour, and those farmers who have been fighting swamp fures in the Hauraki I Plains during the Jast week or two will welcome the rain despite the raoes and all otlwr outdoor sport.
