MAIN TRUNK TRAIN.

NO STOP FOR NEWMABKET. At this afternoon's meeting of tho , Auckland Chamber of Commerce, a reply was received from Mr. E. H. Hiley, General Manager of Railways, to the request of the Chamber that the Main Trunk express from Wellington should 6top at Newmarket. Mr. Hiley wrote that he had been instructed by the Minister ol Railways to say that the time required for the additional stop would necessitate the lengthening of the journey time for through passengers, and complaints would inevitably Tesult. Newmarket was situated only two miles from Auckland and was well served by an excellent suburban train and tram service. '.'As the long distance traffic on the Main Trunk express trains increases the tendency must be to decrease rather than to increase the number of stops made by these trains," continued th letter. "In the circumstances the Minister regrets that he cannot see his way clear to make any alteration in the existing arrangements."
