DEVONPORT COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Devonport Borough t'ouucil lust night was attended by the Mayor (Mr W. Handley). and Messrs A. M. Plckford, A. G. Quartley. A. Nixon, D. W. McLean. "J. Henderson, J. K. Hartv, and P. X. McCnllum. Slot Telephones.—The Telegraph Engineer wrote that a telephone slot machine for Melrose had been recommended, but" that it would be some time before another supply of machines could be obtained. The Electric Light.—The Electricity Supply Corporation. Ltd. (which has the contract for the electric lighting of the borough) asked for an extension of time owing to unavoidable delay caused by war conditions in shipment or plant. All the machinery was now on its way. The question was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee, with power to act after consulting tbe borough solicitor. Overhanging Trees.—ln connection with the erection of the new street poles to carry the cables for the proposed electric light service, many overhanging trees have been trimmed or removed. On the recor--mendatioh of the Works Committee, it Was resolved to request the company to have this work done with cafe, so as to minimise the unsightly appearance cansed by the present method of removing the branches.
