WAIHI SCHOOL OF MINES.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI. Tuesday. The annual meeting of the Waihi School of Mines wa? held the other evening before a large attendance. The report stated that the average number of students during the year was ->4. and the average class attendance 'Hi, compared with 48 and 101 in 1013. The averages for 1914 were seriously affected by the war. The conduct and effi••ieuty of the school had, uowever, been maintained .it a high level. The balancesheet showed an expenditure for the year of fS4S lft/4, the credit balance being £40 18/0. Medals, prizes, and certificates gained at the annual examinations in December last were presented to tbe successful students as follows:- Government, School of Mines scholarship, ii. A. Kills; presidents (T. Gtlnionri. gold medal for highest aggregate. .1. J. S. Comes: vice-president's (M. P. Haszard). gout medal for surveying, H. A. Ellis: Australian mining standard prize for metallurgy, H. A. Ellis; geology, H. A. Ellis (first), theoretical chemistry (senior). .1. J. S. Comes (Qrsti: practical chemistry (junior). 11. Lnregdon (first); junior mathematics, A. Thomson (first); practical mathematics, T. McMillan (first); coal mining, 3. Carmthers (first): senior electricity, J. McDonald (first): Jnnior electricity. O. P. Gordon (first); practical chemistry (jnnior). It. Saunders (second.: mechanical drawing J. McDonald (first). The election of Council for the ensuing twelve months resulted as follows:— I'atrons, Hon. W. H. Herries, M.P.. and H. Poland. M.P.: president, T. Gilraour; vicepresidents, W. H. Johnston and M. F. Haszard; hou. vice-presidents. H. P. Barry, E. 0. Banks, W. F. Grace. K. li. William*, A. Jarman, A. T. Kenrick. W. Crawford Brown, W. McConaehie. and A. E. Daldy: members of the Council, Messrs. J. L,. Gilmour, J. It. Noble. J. H. Ranks. A. J. Walker. W. P. Johnson, ana TV. Morrison; students' representatives. V. H. Potter and H. Languon: Waihi Borough Council's representatives (nominated by Borongh Council), J. (1. Comes and S. H. Watmsiey. The chairman referred with deep regret to the death of Mr. A. H. Benge. and a vote of condolence was passed to the family of the deceased, who was long associated with the ' school.
