COMMANDEERED MEAT.
SURPLUS FOR THE PUBLIC. MR W. THORITE'S SUGGESTION. (Received 11.50 a.m. I LONDON". March 10. Mr 11. T. Baker ( Financial Secretary to the War Office), in reply to a question in the House from .Mr W. Thornc ( Labour M.l*. for West Ham), said that between August and December the army had commandeered 40.190.9731b of frozen beef and 10.497.4881b of frozen mutton, which had been paid for at current rates. Mr Thome suggested that the Australian -New Zealand meat not required for the troops should be sold to the public at cost price. Mr Baker said' tbe Government was considering the best manner for the disposal of such meat.
