FOG DELAYS OPERATIONS IN FLANDERS.
DEADLY ACCURACY OF BRITISH GUNS. FIGHTING QUALITIES OF THE ENEMY. LONDON, March 12. Fog has hampered operations at different points. Two attacks in the Ypres region were repulsed. ■ The Allies' positions were maintained elsewhere. Appreciable progress waa made west of Perthes. "Eye-witness" with British headquarters says that the accuracy of the British artillery is causing great nervousness among the enemy at certain points on the left centre. The writer warns the public against the stories about the enemy's moral weakening. The enemy's effective force in the west is much reduced, but he still holds an enormous front, whilst carrying out huge operations in the east. There are no signs of moral weakening, and the public must not underestimate the enemy's fighting qualities. BERLIN ADMITS A CHECK AT NEUVE CHAPELLE. COUNTER-ATTACKS REPULSED WITH HEAVY LOSS. WELLINGTON, March 12. The High Commissioner reports as follows:— In the Champagne district the Allies have made progress. , In a wood, wherein the Allies obtained a footing five days ago, and which the enemy defended rigorously, the Allies have maintained their gains, notwithstanding a very heavy bombardment and many counter-attacks. In the region of Xeuve Cliapelle the British troops repulsed two counterattacks with considerable loss to the enemy. A message from Berlin states that the War Office admits that the position at Ncuve Chapelle was penetrated by the British, and adds that fighting continues in this region.
