Itulherfoi-d. C. 11. Furness. and J. 1). I'uterson. A Nuisance.—The ihaCrman brought up the question of a serious nuisance existing a! one point on Beach Itoad. where the effluent from a number of septic tanks was accumulating upon the roadway, and makti*g Ihe spot particularly offensive and dangerous. The Engineer. In reply to -i query, stated that he had written to the Drainage Board s engineer about the matter, but had received no reply. The area in question was so low-| hat pumping would be necessary to ronvey-sowage to the Drainage Board's sewers. A* a temporary expedient, he re<-ommeiided that an intercept lug sewer he laid, so as to couvey the effluent out Into the channel. Seeing that the Drainage Board was ultimately responsible for Ihe sewage, he thought that it should be asked to pay half the cost of the work. The matter was left to the chairman and engineer, with power to act. Mount Hobson Bore.—ln reply to a query, the Engineer stated that the waterborlnc <>per.>tlons on Mount Ifobson had been delayed, owing to an accident to the contractor's plant on another job. Work, however, would be started as soon as practicable. Roads.- Mr. Moore-.lones entered a protest against any pursuance of what he termed the Board's past policy of taking over unformed roads. Ile cited an instance which the Board discussed at length In committee, no action being taken.
